Australian Theatre History

The "History of Australian Theatre Archive" (HAT) is a non profit website that aims to encourage the study of Australian Theatre History. It has a large database of people associated with Australian theatre history, articles about theatre history, short biographies from the newspapers, autographs , historic pictures of theatres and performers and links to other websites. It also has information about Houdini's Tour of Australia and a section on Australian Magic History.

Many new theatre images at Wikimedia Commons

The spectacular "donation" of 100,000 images by the German National Archives (Bundesarchiv) includes hundreds of theatre exteriors and interiors, mostly from the former GDR, but also from the old West.

Teatro della Concordia

Thanks to a fellow opera nut from America, I could add three postcards to the page showing the Teatro della Concordia at Monte Castello di Vibio, Italy.

By the way, the illustration on the right serving as logo for this blog also shows this charming little theatre. It is taken from the official Italian postage stamp celebrating this theatre.

Baden-Baden and more

Performance spaces in Baden-Baden (new pages): Other additions from Germany:

Stagedoor postcards from Vienna

Actors at the stagedoor (or „Bühnentürl“ in Viennese dialect): Another card that is not from this series, but somewhat in the same line: Plus some other new images from Austria:

Some French theatres

Théâtre in Ambert.

Théâtre in Annonay.

Théâtre de l'Eldorado in Lyon.

Centre Culturel in Villeparisis (near Paris).

Some of the many „lieux de spectacle“ in Paris: Théâtre de Belleville, Théâtre des Gobelins, the foyer of the locomotive repair works turned theatre, Théâtre de Lierre (which means ivy, by the way), Théâtre Mogador, Théâtre de Montparnasse, Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin and a postcard of the former Salle Berlioz, now Théâtre de l'Oeuvre.

Last, and in a certain way least, a special gem of French theatre architecture: the Théâtre of Somain.

PS: Opéra Municipal de Marseille now with an interior view of the Art Nouveau auditorium.

Four theatres in Belgium

The beautiful little Palace Theatre of Chimay.

Kortrijk's Schouwburg.

And two lost theatres of Liège:
Théâtre du Gymnase and Théâtre sur la Batte.

An opera house, a theatre, a concert hall and a cinema in Denmark

First, København's stunning new, privately funded Operaen.

Second, Stadttheater in Hadersleben/Haderslev. Well, a theatre of some sort. Maybe rather a restaurant with entertainment hall. Anyone who knows more about this building is welcome to submit some information.

Third, Musikhuset concert hall in Arhus.

And finally the capital's best-known cinema: Palads Teatret in København.
